Smile...

No matter what happens in my day, the best parts of it are always when people make me laugh. Maybe it's a product of growing up in England (after all, you have to have a wicked sense of humour to live here and remain vaguely sane) but genuine moments of mirth are to be treasured.

So hats of this week to a senior manager at Apple UK and a local landlord who have both amused me greatly.

The former strolled past a friend of mine last Friday about 3pm as he and a group of colleagues were idly discussing their plans for the weekend. The manager stopped, put his head around the cubicle wall and said, "Excuse me, do we pay you all a bit less on a Friday?"

Fantastic. I shall be using that one myself :)

As for my local landlord, well he's placed a sign in the window of his pub (at one end of a short strip of pubs, bars and restaurants) that reads:

'Last Pub for 22 yards'

Ooh, I just picked up my first zinger for when I get to a manager! (snicker)

And the last pub for 22 yards? Christ, that's unbearable! :)

But can you take a travellor when you travel the 22 yards?

22 yards? That's like ten miles to a Brit. :)

Both brought a smile to my face. My productivity on a Friday isn't great. Worse if we go to the pub at lunchtime and I have a pint Guinness or two...

Surprised that the landlord isn't prosecuted for promoting imperial measurements in these metric obsessed days. And I shall also use the manager's line - sadly applicable every day.

22 yards?
There's room for another pub right there!

Kevin - I'm surprised that your managers haven't used the first one :)

IG - I know, 22 yards is like a light year in pub terms...

Respectfully Yours - I think you can pretty much do whatevr you want so long as you buy a beer afterwards.

Veggie - in pub terms it's a lot more than ten miles :)

weenie - excellent combination of the two there :)

Madame DeFarge - so long as he serves his beer in metres then we're all okay.

Sweet Cheeks - even though 14 of those 22 yards is a pub, you're still right :)
