Just this once...

I don't do memes as a rule, but I'm making this one exception for Pearl and then I'm never doing one again.

Apparently I have to list seven quirky personality traits that are evidenced in this blog and then pass it on to seven other bloggers.

I've spent a while narrowing the list down from ninety-two, so here they are...

1) I have a love/hate relationship with punctuation. I can't stand colons, semicolons or bullet-points - whereas I seem to have an increasingly intimate relationship with the hyphen and putting '...' at the end of sentences as if I'm trailing off. I do the latter because that really is how I speak...

2) I read, re-read, and then re-re-read every post to make sure I've not spelt anything either a) wrongly or b) in American. I don't like using the spell checker because it objects to '...' (see point 1)

3) I feel the need to respond to every comment left here, because I don't like upsetting people. For the same reason I no longer keep a blogroll because I'd never remove anyone - even if I hadn't read their blog for years.

4) Very few people in real life actually know me very well because I choose not to disclose very much about who I really am/how I think. This is why there's little actual personal information about me posted here either (except when I'm drunk). I presume I do this because I'm insecure or something.

5) The last word is mine. Mine, I tells ye!

6) I try to find humour in every situation. Doing this provides most of my ideas for posts here, which are in the main supposed to be dryly amusing (um, if you hadn't worked that bit out yet :) ).

7) Pearl thinks I'm a smart arse. I consider that a compliment :-P

Right then, I would tag people here - but point 3 means I can't. So I'll tag everyone instead (see point 7) ;)

So, highlights of the rest of the week are posts about..

1) Cricket
2) Murder
3) Mugs
4) Peppers
5) Sleeping

Not, necessarily, in that order.

Haha, I am so going to leave a hundred comments just to see if you explode or something.

Yeah, I'm not sure that responding to every comment policy is such a wise one (well at least telling people about it anyway).

Rachel - now, now, play nice :)

Ben - good point. Ah well, too late now!

Five topics listed not quite in alphabetical order. 'Peppers' is the one that binds them together.

Fuck ye off. The last word is MINE! :)

If someone leaves me a comment, I at least like to check out their blog etc. Replying to them all would be insanity - may as well use MSN, lol :D

Smart "arse" is absoLUTEly a compliment, RS; and I'm glad you've taken it as such.

Please note correctly used semi-colon.

Interestingly (at least, perhaps, to you and I), I, too, rarely disclose much of my real self to friends. It's best that way. :-)

As for American spelling, I would like to apologize for our unwarranted use of the letter "z" and feigned ignorance of the missing "u"s in so many words. I will tell you that I stood my ground in fourth grade, after reading The Phantom Tollbooth, I think it was, and stubbornly insisted the word "color" had a "u" in it.

It was the only spelling word I got wrong the whole year, and I cried, but the teacher would not back down.

B1tch.

gb - that's almost 100% correct! Have you been looking at my notes? *gives suspicious stare*

Veggie - mine! You should know that by now :)

Cheeks - welcome and thank you. I shall drop by and have a read :)

Jack - I've been doing it for the 4 years I've been blogging (on and off) and no-one ever noticed. More fool me for mentioning it :-P

Pearl - I tried my best to differentiate between 'wrong' and 'American'. You lot may spell things how you wish (though you are not forgiven for the pronunciation of Aluminium :-P ) so long as we can add all our extra letters in. Microsoft hates us though, and drives us native English speakers underground :(

That teacher really does sound like a bitch though ;-)

So if I continue to leave comments in this here space, will you actually continue responding to them?

Also, writing for an Americanised website, I am used to omitting those precious extra letters every day. The occasional American spelling has even been creeping into my regular usage. It's a slippery slope!

Ben - yes. Yes I will :)

I said zebra the other day in American. Going out with Mrs RS is changing me....

Ben said...

You mean zeebra?

My dad still says vitamins for some reason, even though he only spent a little while in Canada as a child.

Ben said...

I knew I should have capitalised the 'I' in vitamins rather than simply going for bold (which you can't really see).

Red Squirrel said...

Ben - yup, I said zeebra. Not my finest moment....

Little Squirrel...don't be ridiculous....it IS a zeebra.

When I am reading silently to myself and I see those words with all those extra letters, I switch to an English accent in my head...is that sick or what?!

:)

Sweet CHeeks - no, that's perfectly normal :)
