Well, yes...

A colleague told me this story today. Apparently his wife - who has zero interest in football - wandered into their front room last night and said:

"I just heard on the radio about that footballer who was stabbed in the legs."

"Yes," said my colleague, wondering where this was going.

She continued. "They said they might have to amputate his legs."

"That's what I heard too," he replied.

She paused, looking pensive. "So......I guess that would almost certainly put an end to his footballing career then?"

There's not a huge amount you can say to that.....

I dunno, a wooden-legged sweeper might stop a few strikers in their tracks.

I've seen plenty goalies who haven't really used their legs, maybe he could switch positions?

Also, it's quite wrong your word verification for me here is BOOTYLAB.

Rachel - indeed :)

gb - he could drop down a few divisions and play for leeds I suppose.

Even if he had no legs he'd be better than me though :(

TVA - he'd be easy to chip the ball over with no legs surely?

As for the word verification - I write all of those myself :)

She's probably seen Ronaldo on the MOTD once too often and assumes they're all propped up on sticks ready to fall over in the breeze.

Pearl - she's a really nice person! Just rather quotable :)

Kevin - or she once watched wheelchair football at the special olympics....
